A good question raised in a group discussion we had some months back regarding Yorkie health was “What age do you sell a Yorkie?”

Puppy development is very sensitive to serious breeders. If you ask them at what age do you sell a Yorkie, a good breeder will tell you a background of puppy development before giving his answer.

With questions lingering about “what age do you sell a Yorkie?” it is the same for the Yorkie as for other dogs. It should be done no earlier than the eighth week. This will give time for the pup to fully develop all important aspects before releasing it to new homes.

The first six weeks should be devoted for the puppy to mingle and learn very basic dog behavior together with his littermates. This is where the puppy should be socialized not only with liter mates but also with people. In addition, this is the pup’s time to venture into the dog world. Critical points are developed as this stage and tampering with critical timelines will prove to be problematic later on.

The mother also nurses the puppies for about six weeks. Even if we normally start introducing solid food at four weeks, the pups are still nursed by the mother.

I place ads on the web on the middle of the eighth week. I buy time since from experience; people normally go to my place and get the pup on the ninth or tenth week. It will allow the ad to do its worth on where you have placed it

It is recommended fact that you should sell a puppy after 8 weeks of age. This is factual, practiced, backed up by experience and supported by studies.

By this time, the recommended vaccinations and sometimes the rabies shots have been administered to ensure the proper heath of the pup. By This the time, the breeder should have introduced novel stimuli to the whelping box and the play pen items like plastic milk bottles, knotted towel, toys, etc. Some breeders also introduce puppies to friendly cats. To us, it is important also to continue picking up the pups daily, admiring them, talking to them, and spending a few minutes with each one individually. In doing this for the first eight weeks, you have done first major steps in directing a pup to an ideal happy life.

This is utterly heart wrenching….and so impossibly sad, because it is true…and it shouldn’t have been this way. How helpless his father must have felt. Shame on that judge. Shame on her.
