How to potty train and housebreak your Yorkie

1) Buy a crate or kennel that is close to the size of your yorkie.

Unfortunately you will not want to leave additional room for the yorkie. If the yorkie is enclosed in a small space they will not go to the bathroom. They have a strong instinct to not soil themselves.

Is this cruel? Will the yorkie dislike me? Will this method effect my yorkie’s personality?

Rest assured that your yorkie will have better self-esteem after they have learned how to control their body. Yorkies are very loving and forgiving. Yorkies enjoy being in a small space. They feel safe. Your yorkie will learn to love their crate or kennel and will return of their own free will in time for privacy and solitude.

2) Leave the yorkie in the crate or kennel for at least 45 minutes while you are at home at least once.

Leave the room and stand in a spot where the yorkie can still hear you but cannot see you. When they whimper or whine say loudly but respectfully and in a firm voice, “No.” Repeat this process for a few minutes and then tend to other business.

Bella at 7.5 weeks

Bella at 7 and a half weeks

This is the picture that I found on ksl.com, a news website. I love this picture! I fell in love with her as soon as I saw this picture. When I found this advertisement I just about fainted! Bella’s father was a champion. She is such a gorgeous puppy!

Bella is very tiny, even for a yorkie. Very small yorkies are called teacup yorkies. “Teacup” is a term like unto toy as in poodle. Bella’s father was about 3 pounds and her mother was about 5 pounds. Bella was the smallest of her litter. Bella was also the pick of her litter…and we all can see why!

Bella likes to cuddle. She follows my husband everywhere we go. Bella is very affectionate and loving. This little girl is very popular when she goes out in public.

I have been grooming Bella myself. I have trimmed her nails and trimmed the hair on her paws so that things don’t get caught in the hair around her paws. Her feet are so cute now! I can see the pads of her feet.

My beautiful Bella

I met Bella on April 1, 2008. I fell in love with her instantly. She held out her arms as she was handed to me and, well, the rest is history. Bella is a yorkshire terrier, also known as yorkie. The yorkie breed is a very cuddly, loving breed that are playful and fun. I have wanted a yorkie for a very long time. I never even considered myself a dog person…maybe that’s bad to admit…but I really didn’t. However, I have always like yorkies. Bella is a dog, and of course now I have decided that I am a dog person…but Bella made it possible for me to become a dog lover. She has the best personality of any dog I have ever met…and those who have met her agree that I’m only a little partial.

The purpose of this blog is to share with the world my beautiful Bella and the joys that she has brought me. She is such a special dog that I am thinking about breeding her someday. She truly is special…and extremely beautiful. Her features are amazing…a true babydoll face, dark rim around her eyes- a natural eyelines- that is present among the best yorkies, and very soft, thick hair for a yorkie.
