A Female Yorkie in Heat
Whether or not you purchased your female Yorkie for the purpose of breeding her, necessary preparations are necessary if and when you finally decide to take this step.
Typically, it is best to breed a female Yorkie in heat on the second or third season. Planning beforehand – which time of the year is best suited, and considering where the puppies will be born and raised. Of course, you will be wholly responsible in keeping them until the puppies reach six weeks of age. Another factor to consider is the best time to sell the puppies.
Breeding a female Yorkie in heat does not entirely end there; caring and looking after her puppies after they were born until they are healthy enough to be bought and brought home by the buyer can take much of your time, though. And don’t forget the female Yorkie herself – she needs to be taken care of, too!
You can choose to breed your female Yorkie dog about six and a half months after the beginning of her last season, even though a variation of a month or two is not uncommon. Pick a stud dog of your choice and make necessary arrangements beforehand.
If you are breeding for show type which may dictate better prices, a stud should be chosen with an eye to complementing the deficiencies of your female Yorkie. If possible, they should have similar ancestors within the last two or three generations, as such combinations generally work best. He should have a good, impressive record to be the sire of show winners, if old enough to be proven.
Stud dog owners normally charge a fee for this. This does not guarantee a litter, but you have the right to breed your female Yorkie again in the next season if she does not get pregnant. In some situations, the stud owner will agree to take a choice puppy in lieu of a stud fee.
You should settle every detail before breeding your female Yorkie, including the possibility of a single surviving puppy, and deciding the age at which he is to make his choice and take the chosen puppy for himself, etc.
However, if you have no plans of breeding Yorkies for to compete in dog shows and such, an important thing to remember is the temperament. make certain the male Yorkie is friendly as well as healthy, because a bad disposition could manifest in his puppies, and this is the worst of all traits in a Yorkie destined to be a pet.
