Bathtime for Bubby…Movie included!!!

Posted on 02 October 2008 by Amanda - Teacup Yorkie Dog Lover

Here are pictures of Bubby getting a bath months ago! It may have been the first bath we gave him…he was TINY!

I have heard that yorkies really benefit from once a week baths. I thought this was crazy! But I decided to try it. We bathed our pups once a week for a long time-then missed a few weeks here and there-lately we have missed like three weeks in a row. For many dogs owners I know this really does sound crazy. Not all dogs benefit from once-a-week baths many dogs hair can be damaged by frequent shampooing. Not the yorkie! Our yorkies stink to high heaven if they aren’t bathed. Another problem is their hair-it mats very easily if not shampooed and conditioned.

We have noticed some seriously interesting points about bathing and grooming yorkies.

1) They really don’t like baths or getting wet at all

Bella and Bubby whine and cry during every bath. We have tried so many different methods to help them feel comfortable during their shampoos but nothing seems to help! I guess its genetic- although it may sound ridiculous, think about it. Labradors by breed love water. And Yorkies used to be called Waterside Terriers their name was no lie!

2) They hate having their feet touched

When Bella and Bubby were very young- after we first adopted them- I trimmed their nails while they were asleep. I didn’t want to scare them! I thought I would ease them into nail trimmings. Well, that didn’t exactly work. We have read in Yorkie publications that yorkies by breed hate having their feet touched, thus making it very difficult to trim nails!

3) Their ears should be trimmed for optimal hearing and for standing erect

Bella and Bubby hate it when I trimmed the hair on their ears. I’m sure this is common among all dogs because their hearing is so sensitive. Bubby and Bella jump at each cut of the scissors when I cut any of their hair, but when its their ear hair its that much louder! They run away and hide, and I feel so cruel! So for now their ears are not that Yorkie-ish and do not stand erect.
