Bella’s strange eating habit

Posted on 29 November 2008 by Amanda - Teacup Yorkie Dog Lover

Bella‘s food dish is on the kitchen floor. a-little-yorky-terrier-petShe loves to take a piece of dog food in her mouth, carry it over to the carpeted area, and eat there. Its so funny! She is fickle enough with what she will eat, much less how she eats it.

The best part is that Bella has done this since she was a baby. Thanks to my husband, Bart, we have a video of Bella doing this! Bella even brings treats over to the carpet. In this video Bella’s bowl is near the carpet, although the bowl is usually on the other side of the kitchen and Bella still brings her food to the carpet!

Why? Who knows. But it must be fairly important to Bella. Because without fail, at every turn, this yorkie will bring her food away from the bowl to eat. She does occasionally just eat at the bowl too, but I doubt she will ever consistently stop this behavior.

Bart and I have thought of various possible reasons for Bella’s behavior. Maybe she wants to eat in peace? Well, that would make sense now that Bubby is around, and he often hogs the food (even though he remains very skinny.) But that wouldn’t explain why Bella did this when she was a puppy. This video is of Bella after we had her for maybe one month.

Our Yorkie sometimes tries to push a rug or other object over her food with her nose prior to eating it. Is this normal, if so, why is she doing it.
