Yorkies for Adoption

Posted on 28 July 2011 by Mylene - Dog Enthusiast

Adopting a Yorkie is an exciting time for a household.  There are many various places that Yorkies can be found, but the absolute best choice would be an animal shelter or breed rescue

group.  Every year over 4 million dogs and cats are euthanized for no other reason that the fact that there are not enough homes available for all of them.

This problem has become bigger in large part because of three main reasons: First, puppy mills which breed animals only for the money they can make without any regard for the health and well being of the animals; second, individuals who decide to breed their own animals to make money

and; third, individuals who do not spay or neuter their animals, and carelessly let their animals breed and produce litters.

In Yorkie adoption, Animal shelters are often filled to capacity for these reasons.  By adopting a Yorkie from a shelter or rescue group, you are helping to solve the pet overpopulation problem.

Some people believe that an animal shelter will not have a particular breed type, but shelters always have purebred dog, such as Yorkshire Terrier, if that is what you are looking for.

The process may take longer if you are looking for a purebred dog, but often the breed you are looking for will be turned over to a shelter at some point if you are patient.  There are also breed rescue groups for almost every breed of animal. Also, keep in mind that mixed breed dogs make wonderful pets, so do not rule out adopting a mixed Yorkie Terrier even if you are set on adopting a purebred one.

You have finally found the perfect pet from a shelter or rescue group and you are still wondering what you can do to help put an end to the pet overpopulation problem.  Following are some things you can do to continue to help Yorkies up for adoption: Another thing you can do is shop your conscience by only shopping at pet supply stores that do not sell live animals.  If your local pet shop does sell live animals, let them know how you feel about this problem.  If puppy mill breeders have trouble selling their animals to pet shops they will no longer want to be in this business.

Also, please consider a newly adopted Yorkie puppy or dog as a member of your family.  Too many people decide to get a pet and then find out the situation does not work for them.  Please do your homework before you make this decision so you are not in the position of having to turn your pet over to a shelter because you did not thoroughly understand the commitment. Adopting a yorkie or any dog can be tough they tend to have problems as they have not been trained, loved, or cared for in a loving home in a very long time if they ever had. If you feel that adopting a rescue dog is not something your family can handle emotionally try looking for yorkie puppies for sale on eBay classifieds or on Google or Bing.

By adopting your Yorkie from a shelter or breed rescue group, you can feel good about helping solve an enormous problem- and know that you are part of the solution!

Puppy Mills Make for an ugly Yorkie Puppy

Posted on 28 July 2011 by Mylene - Dog Enthusiast

A local news station in Denver, Colorado recently aired a piece about the rescue of ninety dogs from a puppy mill in Missouri – a group called Mill Dog Rescue has set up agreements with many different puppy mill owners to take all of their unwanted dogs.

These are the animals that are injured, deformed, sick, or just too old to be sold to pet stores.  Normally, the puppy mill owners will compile this list of dogs that they are intent on destroying and will gladly give Mill Dog Rescue all of these animals instead of killing them.  The group has set up these delicate arrangements in the hope of saving all of the dogs that they can, and allowing most, if not all, of the dogs rescued to have a chance at a quality life with a loving family.

This piece showed some of the deplorable conditions that these dogs have lived in their entire lives.  By far, the biggest act of cruelty dispensed by these puppy mill owners is to the female dogs that are bred repetitively until they die.  The second biggest act of cruelty is the fact that these puppy mill owners do not even give basic care to these dogs.  They have no shelter from winter cold or summer heat, they are not fed well, and they do not receive any veterinary care.  There are these ‘ugly Yorkie puppies’ that end up in pet stores all over this country.

An ugly Yorkie puppy in this context means uncared for: malnourished, flaky skin, thinning coat on account of allergies brought about by the puppy mill they came from.

Statistics have shown that almost ninety percent of all puppies (Yorkshire Terriers included) sold at pet stores come from puppy mills.  Statistics also show that over 2.7 million dogs were killed last year for no other reason than there are too many of them and not enough families to adopt them.  Puppy mill owners are breeding multitudes of dogs and then killing the overstock.  Does this make any sense to anyone?

There are also other ways to fight this problem: Do not buy a Yorkie puppy or dog from a pet store, but adopt a Yorkie puppy or dog from a shelter instead.  If people would stop buying from pet stores, the stores would have no reason to sell puppies, so this would stop puppy mill owners from having a pipeline of income from pet stores that buy Yorkie puppies and dogs.

Sometimes all we can do to solve a problem is to educate ourselves and to make our voices heard.  Remember: If lawmakers receive thousands of letters regarding this subject, they will take notice.  Please help abolish puppy mills forever.

The Pros and Cons of Teacup Yorkie For Sale and For Adoption/Rescue

Posted on 02 March 2011 by Mylene - Dog Enthusiast

There are plenty of reasons why an individual would take interest in Teacup Yorkie for sale or adoption. Some want companionship and these people find Teacup Yorkies to be just perfect; they can very well care for these dogs and receive lots of loyalty and love in return. No matter where you get the Teacup Yorkie – committing to such decision is required.

Like all decision that need to be made, of course there are pros and cons to each side to adopting and buying a Teacup Yorkie. Assessing these points first is a great step to do. Accurate and feasible information is needed so you can finalize a decision for owning a Teacup Yorkie.

When you purchase a Teacup Yorkie for sale from a reputable breeder or a reputable pet shop you can be certain you are getting a good dog. Many of them have papers as proof that speak of the Teacup Yorkie for sale’s lineage and this is one of the reasons to make you feel confident of the quality you are getting.

This is a very important part of the decision making process for you if in case you plan to breed Teacup Yorkies, or you take good care of one to compete in dog shows. Also, you will need to come up with some expenses (which is inevitable). But this is also part of the investment you are going to face if you are all about this breed’s quality.

With adoption, you take the Teacup Yorkie with you with little to no information as to the dog’s personal history. In some cases, there are Teacup Yorkies that are rescued on account of maltreatment, abandonment, and having illness – the latter being given up by the owner for a much better supervision offered by rescue homes, lack of funds to maintain the dog’s health, or both.

In some instances, the Teacup Yorkie even dies and getting a refund is impossible. There are fees to get a rescued Teacup Yorkie but compared to getting one with papers, the cost will be much less. Rescued Teacup Yorkies are for you if you are the type of person who wants to give a dog a good home, to take care for, and to have something as a fine companion in your home.

Once you have decided that a Teacup Yorkie is the one for you to keep, consider other factors which can help you know more about this breed: Brief history, general care, temperament, and the like before you get one either by Teacup Yorkie for sale, or for adoption.

U.K. Yorkie Rescue

Posted on 14 March 2009 by Francis - Kennel Owner

For some, it’s an old story best to be forgotten. For others, it’s a valuable lesson that should be told over and over.

Puppy mills are quite rampant around the world. On the practical side and in reality, dogs fetch a good value more than enough to make a decent living. Yorkies are special to puppy mills, they eat less compare to most, are easily stored and stacked; furthermore, they are quite expensive.
This breed is easy pickings for Puppy millers in the UK. (more…)
