Then again I am no expert and the summaries and comparisons this will generate is up to you to absorb and digest. I have relied mostly from stories from fellow dog owners more than internet and superficial and unverifiable sources.

From all my pet dog owner friends, there is at least one dog that suffers from at least one form of food allergy. I have one and so do they.

If a dog is suffering from any type of food allergy, it will be wise to change the diet to exclude the allergic food. It’s quite hard since only one out of my many pets suffer that allergy. If you can pinpoint which food is causing the allergy or if your pet has multiple sensitivities you may want tot switch to a hypoallergenic dog food.

Any dog can be allergic to any of the ingredients in the normal packaged dog food; ingredients like soybean meal or lamb meal or any of the major ingredients, preservatives, colorings, flavorings, or anything that goes into the preparation of the dog food, can cause minute to severe allergic reactions.

Dog food ingredients are complicated to understand. You can read healthy but a closer review might reveal another story. Here is a set of hypoallergenic dog foods that have been recommended by fellow pet owners and others that are promising.

Acanan brand pet foods are hypoallergenic dog food, manufactured by Champion Pet Foods. This Canadian company specializes in hypoallergenic dog food of all varieties and for all dogs regardless of age and breed. This dog food is organic and free of artificial colors, flavors, preservatives, chemicals binders and fillers. There are no allergy-causing foods like wheat and gluten. They have a claim for being human grade foods. This is from a friend that raises and breeds Siberian huskies, a breed highly susceptible to allergies.

Canidae dog food is made of natural ingredients and is recommend for healthy skin and hair.  There have been reports on the web that dogs develop stomach upsets but  is still the best food choice for Gina, a breeder of Chow chows. Her and my best choices for a dog with food allergies would be: lamb and rice or the chicken and rice varieties. If the dog goes well on Canidae dog food it could be a good choice because Canidae is more economical than other hypoallergenic brands.

Go natural dog food. Hypoallergenic dog food is available in different types for you to choose from depending on your dog’s allergies. There is variety , not only grain-free but also free of meat by-products and contains additional enzymes and pro-biotics for a healthy dog. Also manufactured in Canada. This hypoallergenic dog food gives a good diet to my friend raising Shih Tzus, another hairy and sensitive breed.

Allergies emanate from a whole food item or just an ingredient part of that food item. If one type of food does not suit your dog, try another flavor before you decide to change the brand itself.

Remember to keep in mind is that every dog is as individual as a human being.
