So, you just bought this cute, little yorkie and had everything prepared in your home for him. Dog food bowl, a pack of dog food (and other dog treats), tiny clothes for him to wear, and god knows what else.
Alright, so everything is prepared, and now you wonder a little bit… you want him to be more than just a pet.
Right, you want this smart little fella to shine, and it is more than just grooming and flaunting his sweet, furry features.
Finally, you decide on gathering more information on training a yorkie.
Molding the yorkie’s personality in the long run depends entirely on ways you handle him since day 1. Most dogs are ‘nice’, but this term varies, and is being used in contexts that differ from one dog owner to another.
A dog can be nice, but he would no doubt attack anyone who dared to be near his owner. A dog can also be nice, to the point of being way too friendly even to thieves who just had succeeded in breaking inside your home.
But that does not mean these dogs are not trainable at all. The options to train dogs like Yorkshire terriers are limitless. You, for example – can train your little yorkie a bit about housebreaking, no matter his age is.
It is a fact that not all dog owners have the time and patience to train their pets. Yes, they are welcomed and loved in homes, but I noticed that some of these dogs are pretty ok in living rather simple lives.
You can change, or emphasize the yorkie’s personality by tapping his potential to be a guard dog. Why not?
You can train him to be the best Yorkshire terrier you ever owned, as long as you believe in his capabilities. He may be a baby, but if your yorkie ultimately knows when and where to pee and defecate, you will be quite surprised at how smart he is.
He may not be built like a Newfoundland, but his constant barking will let you know there’s an intruder inside your home, or if he senses something that isn’t quite right at all.
Preparedness in taking care of your pet can be a handful, including collecting information on training a yorkie.
But with love and a little stretch of patience – you just rewarded yourself a very good yorkie who stands out from the rest.

There is absolutely no information for training yorkies in this mini article! Basically, readers are informed that Yorkies CAN be trained if you believe in them, as they are an intelligent breed. Lovely, but not helpful at all. Be specific. Do you know of any training techniques, rewards, etc that are especially helpful with potty training, training your dog to your voice with commands such as “sit” and “stay,” and ultimately, in training your dog not to bark every moment of the day? Yorkies have no problem using their voices to act as mini guard dogs, however, they are prone to bark when they are unhappy, when they are playing, when any car or person or animal comes within 10 yards of your house, etc. Are you able to provide such advice?

Good point, Hannah. Try these links for articles within our site that address the subtopics of training you suggest: crate training, praise/ rewards, and treats. Additionally, instructions for a specific yorkie training command and an article addressing yorkie barking.
