It’s tough to compare dog food
It would really be hard to compare dog food. You will have to check what type of breed you have, how many dogs you have, the dog’s lifestyle and other factors.
I did have some grey areas on when I have a lot of dogs, it’s not just a matter of what’s best; you also have to play what the economics area and the other aspects.
On dog food comparison, say you have one dog whether it’s a large breed or small, dry kibble or canned food will be okay. If you have a working breed, you need something with higher protein content like the premium ones. If you have pups, there is an entire alley of dog feed to choose from.
Different nutritional needs and different numbers of dogs play a major factor in getting dog food.
I have a kennel of large breed dogs. I need optimum nutrition and I do not want to go for the grain based dog food. I know it’s a unanimous thing that grain based dog food is a no no for me. However, premium food like Canidae and the others will not fare much with the volume of dogs I have. So I do my research and get the best I can buy. I may not necessarily get the most expensive since it’s not always that the most expensive is best.
I do go with lamb and rice but I still do supplemental feeding with raw foods and home prepared foods for the dog since I want them to get the most protein content I can.
On some other issues, sometimes I find a dog that is allergic to the regular kibble I feed all dogs in the kenel. This means I have to study that dog and look for other options. That somehow complicates things. I give the lot single dog food viand and the other/s I get a different kind.
As a universal principle when I compare dog food, I make sure what I choose is the most protein and the most holistic I can get. I try o get the best I can within my reasonable budget. Not all kennel owners are willing to transfer to raw (which I consider best) feeding. Even though it is best compared to all the kibble and cans in the market, it is till very expensive when you look through the perspective of a kennel owner.
It will always have to be a combination of good kibble, raw and holistic. It’s an exact science to some but for me, it will all depend on economics and living the principles of giving the exact nutrients they need.
