Over the past couple of years, there have been hundreds of issues, recalls, contaminations and other foul ups on commercial dog food. It came to a point when I was screening the shops to see what kind of contents these things had in them and ending up frustrated when I get email reports and other information that the dog food I got was part of a recall or “do not feed” list.
Agonizing? Yes, considering the fact that I am shopping for 15 or more dogs in my kennel. I don’t like the idea of throwing good money’s worth on sacks and sacks that I bought to feed fifteen or more dependent beings. Solution: home cooked dog food.
I did some research and used a whole lot of common sense. Dogs are dogs. They are termed domesticated cause they do not hunt for food anymore and primarily depend on their owners for their whole lives’ nutrition.
I think Mother Nature knows best and she gave me a nudge to feed my pets home cooked dog food.
It’s like putting one and one together. Dogs are carnivores, which mean that they love meat. Dogs used to hunt and go for the stomachs immediately. It was mentioned that stomachs are where they get their vegetables (granted the fact that the prey had just eaten its share of grass and herbs). So I just took it to myself to prepare them home made dog food.
It’s quite simple. I’d go to a meat market, get sawdust (a byproduct of meat shops who use grinders and saws to chop up different orders), and get some carrots, celery or salad greens whatever looks fresh and organic. I get to the kitchen, boil the meat, add a little rice or corn, and finally throw in the chopped vegetables. After about half an hour, the food is ready. I just cool down the home made dog food and serve it at feeding time.
At least I know that the stuff they eat is as fresh and as safe as money can get. We all know the rumors and reports of commercial dog food running around the markets. I’m no longer bothered by all these ingredients, preservatives, MSG and all other unknowns that go into your dogs’ meals… alone if the meat used in those canned ones and kibbles
Home made dog food actually saves me a lot of money in the long run. Now I worry less on kidney failure and vet expenses.
