Poodle Puppies for Sale

Posted on 17 September 2008 by Amanda - Teacup Yorkie Dog Lover

Everyone likes a poodle puppy, right? Poodles are good pets and easy to care for. If you decide to purchase a poodle pup you may want to consider a few following details.

Standard, mini, or toy poodle? What size of poodle meets your needs the most? There is more than meets

the eye to consider in this category, as looks are not the only difference between the three types of poodles. The largest poodle, the standard, is mild mannered and can make an excellent watchdog. My personal favorite is the standard- surprising if you know me. I usually love the smaller breeds, but when it comes to poodles there is nothing like a standard with a fur coat cut.

Miniature poodles are medium sized, of course, and are very playful. They can learn a lot of tricks and are used commonly in entertainment- during circus routines, for example. The toy and/or teacup poodle is smaller sized. They are easy to travel with, hold and carry, and are an excellent choice if you have limitedliving space. They also tend to be more jumpy and “hyper.”

As always, I do not recommend buying a poodle that you have not seen. Visit the breeder’s home and meet the puppies. Watch how they are treated and cared for and also how they react to you, a new face. Commit to not buying from the first litter until you have looked at least three litters- this way you can make a decision with your head, not your heart. After all, this puppy will be with you for quite some time and you will have to invest a lot of time and care into the pup.

Should you decide to purchase a poodle pup online you will not always be able to visit before you buy. If this is your last option make sure that you have plenty of pictures of the puppies to look at. Ask for as much information as possible from the owner, such as weight, height, birth date, and akc registration and ask as many questions as you would like. A good breeder will be helpful and appreciate your devotion to finding the perfect fit of pup for you.

Poodle pups that are for sale range in a variety of prices, depending on the type of poodle and the age you want. Find out beforehand what prices are reasonable for certain types of poodles and you will prove yourself poodle savvy to the breeder.

As with any puppy adoption, be sure that your home is prepared for the new addition. Set aside enough space for the puppy to feel they have a home of their own, but make sure the puppy will feel well taken care of and properly integrated into your home as well.

Make sure that you are buying a healthy poodle pup. Ask the breeder questions like, was the puppy born with congenital diseases, defects, or any other health problems? Has anyone in the litter had ear infections or cataracts? (These are very common among poodles.)

Good luck in your poodle puppy questing!
