Do teacup yorkies make good pets?

Yes, they do!

After the first few weeks when you and your teacup yorkie have been getting to know each other, it is time to start thinking abut the next steps forward.

There may be any number of reasons for people to buy a teacup yorkie: to be a guard dog, to compete in obedience training competitions, or just to be a well-behaved pet in your home.

Whatever your particular reason, it should go without saying that you will both need training in order to fulfill your joint potential.

More complex training tends to be ongoing and is best left to specialists, but there are so many way of teaching your teacup yorkie some simple obedience commands. Learning these will result in a dog that respects you as the boss, and is a pleasure to own.

Early training for teacup yorkies include both house training and teaching it how to behave when on a lead. No matter how entertaining and delightful your teacup yorkie puppy, your pleasure will soon turn to distaste if he grows into an unruly adult.

Uncontrolled and bad behavior is tiresome and unappealing. Worse, an undisciplined teacup yorkie on a lead can cause accidents.

It is never too soon to start the training; even wearing a soft collar while still young helps a teacup yorkie puppy to adjust t the real thing later on.

Always remember that training should be treated as an enjoyable part of your relationship and not as a chore to be endured. That way, you will be pleasantly surprised by the skills you have developed and gratified by what you have achieved.

You will probably already have had some thoughts about training when you were considering getting the teacup yorkie that interested you in the first place. It is no use choosing a breed just because it looks impressive and because the neighbors have not got that one – that is a sure first step on the way to disaster.

Success in training is achieved through a combination of factors, including the teacup yorkie’s responsiveness, your patience, persistence, and the frequency of training sessions.

It is imperative that you appreciate the differences between the way people and the way dogs like teacup yorkies think. Human and canine behavior patterns are very different. Dogs are naturally pack animals and need to establish a leader.

Compared to people, they are capable of learning only simple commands.
