Choosing a Toy Yorkshire Terrier

Posted on 12 July 2008 by Beth

Yorkies are energetic, outgoing dogs that are very loyal. Yorkies love attention. The American Kennel Club, an official registration site for most breeds of dogs, reports that Yorkies need love more than they need exercise, although most dog breeds need exercise as much as they need food and water- just ask Caesar Millan, the dog whisperer. Yorkies are called lap dogs by many for a good reason- they love to cuddle and are happy to just be by your side. Our yorkies follow us everywhere.

If you are looking for pet that will be a family member, more of a companion than an animal (although there is nothing wrong with animals, of course) I am sure you will be thrilled to adopt a yorkies. Here are a few pertinent details that will assist you iimagen deciding whether a Yorkshire terrier is the animal for you.

Yorkshire Terriers’ hair grows very fine, especially after they reach adulthood. Yorkie hair is beautiful nonetheless. Yorkshire terriers popularly have long hair as adults. This look is very charming but does require upkeep. I always condition my yorkies’ hair after their weekly bath and comb out any tangles. Yorkies have hair, not fur like most dogs. This has advantages- yorkies are hypoallergenic. If you are allergic to dogs but would love to have a sweet companion by your side, a Yorkshire terrier may well be the perfect pet for you.

Yorkie puppies’ hair is commonly kept short. Owners often call this the “puppy cut.” I just adore the cut- it really complements puppy characteristics. image

Yorkies, like all dogs, must be socialized as puppies. They need to be around people, meet new people, and meet new dogs to learn appropriate behavior. Plus yorkies are very friendly and happiest when socializing- but they will not do so if they are not familiar with the process.

IS that what the puppy but looks like???

I thought the puppy cut will look like when he or she is a puppy and if you go to a groomer… can you show a picture of your dog when he’s a puppy and tell him to cut it that way???
