There isn’t one simple plan for maintaining a dog’s healthy diet. Depending on whom you ask and where you read, answers will vary on what the best dog food is for your Yorkie. What I can share, however, are my findings combined with experiences to help make your beloved Yorkie’s life more nutritious and content.

With myriad brand names to choose from, how are you supposed to know what the best dog food is for your Yorkie? Obviously, each brand touts itself as “the choice” or “the healthiest,” so it’s up to you to read the nutritional facts and ingredients and decipher what your dog will consume.

The usual lineup consists of dry dog food (hard kibble), soft-moist dog food (chewy kibble), and canned dog food (highly-palatable meal), with each offering variant tastes and palatability for your pet. Important things to remember are to stray away from the brands that use a lot of “fillers” (such as grains) and non-meat products (i.e., meat meal), which some of the traditional, commercial brands use because they’re inexpensive and abundant.

As I already discussed in my dog food ingredients post, it is important to keep balance and variety within your Yorkie’s diet to maintain optimum health. Some of the best dog food brands that have shown a good density of meat and other wholesome ingredients are Wellness CORE and Eukanuba, to name a few.

Keep in mind that the best dog food selection for your Yorkie is how much protein, overall, it contains when compared to other ingredients. You would like to see various meats listed toward the beginning of the ingredient list, as with the brands listed above.

Now, there are those that swear by the all-natural way to feed their Yorkies, and I don’t see anything wrong with that. You have a better knowledge of what your dog isn’t eating (i.e., chemicals, processed fillers, byproducts, etc.), you can fine-tune and customize their diet, and they might just like it better.

The morale of the story is to be very selective with what goes into your Yorkie’s little tummy. They trust us to provide them with not just food, but healthy food for a salubrious life.
