Yorkshire terriers, particularly the males, are territorial by nature and are not bounded by their limitations for their size. Oftentimes, you will see them attack larger dogs even though they have a huge advantage in size.
Yorkies typically get along well with cats as well as other dogs, and loves to indulge in group playing. However, being terriers, they may still have an eagerness to hunt rodents like an old, sedentary lap dogs. Although they get along well with children, they are at greater risk if kept in a house with an abusive individual such as a child.
Despite of their small stature, yorkies are gifted with a powerful bite. They are quite challenging to train compared to other varieties of dogs. This can be attributed to their characteristic prey drive instead of any major discrepancy in their intelligence as they were designed to work without human intervention.
As a small toy breed, they are best known for their beautiful silky coat and spunky personality. But there are more things that make the yorkies a popular breed. They are fearless watchdogs with a great sense of hearing because they can hear someone arriving long before they reach the door.
Yorkies are not aware of their small size. They are extremely loyal to their owners. If you permit them to, yorkies would prefer to share your bed. They are energetic and can keep pace with children. Due to their small size, they might require supervision with smaller children.
They have the eagerness to play and get into any trouble they might run into. They are independent, feisty, and sweet. When they have made up their mind not to do something, they cannot be forced to do so.
As a toy breed, they still maintain their terrier characteristic. They prefer to be bold, inquisitive, and busy. Despite being a toy and greatly pampered, yorkies are spirited dogs that demonstrates its inner personalities.

Some yorkies are outgoing and sociable towards new people while others are withdrawn and aloof. Their reaction towards new people is determined by the amount of socialization and training that you put in on your terriers.
Although bold and timid, yorkies generally have confidence, full of vigor, and self-worth.
By getting to know the temperament of yorkie puppy breeds, you will be able to become effective in taking care of Yorkshire terriers.

My Yorkie just turned 8 years old. Unfortunately he is very ill and will probably not be with me for too much longer. I want to say that my little guy has been the ideal, perfect dog. He is smart, he has never chewed anything he shouldn’t, he has never growled (though barks when someone is approaching outside), never even nipped at anyone, child or adult. He loves other dogs and loves cats. He prefers big dogs as friends. Not sure why. Maybe he doesn’t know how tiny he is. He got to be over 10 lbs. I put him on a diet, which (coincidentally) was the time he was to start losing weight due to illness. I thought the diet was working, because there were no signs of illness. I am heartbroken. I cannot imagine a better choice for a baby. Love them. Take them places. Introduce them to other animals. Don’t treat them like they’re fragile with them knowing it. You will get all that love back from them. Say a prayer for my little boy. But I know that one day I will get another, because I love Chopper so very much. Not a replacement (that’s impossible); but a familiar distraction that I know I will learn to love to pieces in honor of my little guy. If you have the love, you found your dog.
