Yorkie Doodle Dandy is actually the name of a book about “Smoky,” a very famous yorkie.
This dog was around during W.W.II. She cheered up many soldiers. Smoky also lived in very difficult circumstances in New Guinea jungles while eating only coral at times. This dog was seriously amazing. She deserved to be famous.
Smoky is reported to have experienced many scary things that most humans would be miserable through. She lived through typhoons and was on a ship during kamikaze attacks! Smoky lived side by side with the soldiers of W.W.II and gave birth to puppies without care.
She was evidently a very healthy dog, because she survived without paw ailments and many other sicknesses that war dogs at the time suffered from. But not only was she amazing because of her bravery, health and strength- Smoky was extremely intelligent.
On a day to day basis Smoky learned new tricks and performed impressive feats. She was the first known therapy dog! (I am a huge advocate of animal-assisted therapy) Smoky also was live on Television entertaining millions of viewers for 42 weeks without repeating a trick nor making a mistake.
Yorkie lovers attribute the widespread popularity of the yorkie breed to Smoky.”Smoky is the Yorkie that began the interest in the then obscure breed.” — POPULAR DOG, 2001 and DOG FANCY, 2003 magazines. Without Smoky we may never have known the yorkie!
