What makes a good, nutritious puppy food?

One can willingly tell you a few, but of course since puppies are in dire need of more than love and affection from us, a good puppy food‘s top priority is to keep him healthy, and safe from future illnesses.

In addition, what you feed to him can positively affect his ability to learn and be trained, and have a better quality of life.

Since puppies grow and develop at a rapid rate, they need up to twice the nutrition of adult dogs; this is why puppies should be given a complete and balanced dog food to meet his daily growing needs.

A good puppy food should include vitamin A, known to protect the puppy’s eyes from several diseases, and vitamin C, to reduce the incidence of blood clots and viral infections.

Puppies are also prone to skin disease or allergies. In giving him puppy food, make sure it has tocopherol, or vitamin E – an antioxidant which protect dogs from tissue damage and other diseases.

Given the right medication and care, holistic pet food is best made for dogs suffering from skin sores, or from digestive upsets/ diarrhea.

If you have a puppy like I mentioned, do not prolong his misery by hoping his skin and health problems will go away by themselves. They will surely not.

Visit your veterinarian to have him checked right away, and ask which puppy food will work right for your beloved pup.

I have seen puppies that are being neglected by their owners, and they look so frail and thin. Highly visible ribs, wired coat, flaky skin – all these resulted from improper feeding and lack of attention to puppies.

But these can be avoided right from the start when you focus your attention enough to your puppy when you start giving him puppy food that is best suited for him.

In toy dogs weighing 3-12 lbs, the ideal feeding portion is 1/3 to ¾ cup for puppies aged 1-1/2 to 3 months; ¾ to 1-1/4 cups for puppies aged 3 to 5 months; and 1-1/4 cup to 1-2/3 cups of puppy food for puppies aged 5 to 7 months.

Puppies have a long journey to experience life. Without your love, care, and support, he will grow up dull and unloved.
