There are several different cross breeds of Yorkshire Terriers these days & this article will explore some of them for you.
When deciding on a mixed breed dog research both breeds of dog that combine to make the one hybrid dog, look up the entire characteristics individual to each separate dog. You should note though that you will probably not have all the traits of the single dogs but rather a combination of the good & bad points in both of the breeds.
The Yorktese, Malkie or Morkie is a cross between a Yorkshire Terrier & a Maltese. The character of the Maltese is a spirited, very lively & fun dog. They are a very bold little dog & are friendly towards other animals.
A Chorkie is a mixture between a Yorkshire Terrier & a Chihuahua sometimes referred to as a Yorkie-Chi, Chia-Yorkie or a Yorkiehuahua. The Chihuahua is a brilliant companion dog, extremely lively, bold, proud & strong-willed. They are an intensely loyal little dog & can become very attached to their owners.
The Shorkie Tzu or simply the Shorkie is a Yorkshire Terrier crossed with a Shih-Tzu, the Shih-Tzu can sometimes be known as the Lion Dog. Shih-Tzus are a gutsy little dog & always alert, they can be slightly arrogant almost. They are very clever but do have a tendency to be stubborn.

Yorkie Russell
A Yorkie Russell is a cross between a Yorkshire Terrier & a Jack Russell. The Jack Russell is a merry, perky, very devoted & loving breed of dog. They can be incredibly amusing, as they love to play & to investigate new situations, intelligent but determined & wilful.
Yorkillon’s are a mixture of Papillion & Yorkshire Terrier, Papillions are a friendly dog that love to exercise

Yorkillon
outdoors. Its delicate appearance belies its boldness, as Papillions are a plucky little breed of dog.
The Yorkinese dog is the cross between a Pekingese & a Yorkshire Terrier. Pekingese dogs are known to be courageous to the extent of being foolhardy! They do not always weigh up the positives & negatives of a situation & tend to rush blindly in. They can be sensitive & are very loving.
The Yorkie-Ton is the mixture of a Yorkshire Terrier & a Coton-De-Tulear. The Coton-De-Tulear is very similar to the Bichon-Frise breed of dog, they are very gentle, affectionate, sociable, they love to learn new “party” tricks & they can be stubborn.
A Yorkiepoo dog consists of a Poodle & a Yorkshire Terrier, the Poodle is a very noble, proud breed of dog. They are good-natured & highly intelligent, they are sensitive & happy, one fault is that they do not like to be left alone. Potential owners may encounter separation anxiety issues. A good point is because neither Yorkshire Terriers nor Poodles shed their hair, with a cross between both dogs you can safely say that you will not be clearing up much dog hair from the carpet.
The Yorkie-Pin is crossed between a Miniature Pinscher & a Yorkshire Terrier. The Miniature Pinscher is a very headstrong, demanding little breed of dog. Very alert, spirited & brave. Pinschers are highly intelligent & very loving.
So as you can see there are numerous cross breeds of the little Yorkshire Terrier & probably many more to be discovered.
**Disclaimer**— The next section contains information about so-called “designer breeds” of yorkies, also known as yorkie mixes. The problem with calling these dogs “designer” breeds is that the animals are reduced to an object in a sense. Please be careful about perpetuating this stereotype and the terrible implications using the term can carry.
With designer breeds becoming more and more popular, it is no wonder that Yorkshire Terriers have become the crossbreed of choice when breeding for small dogs. Many designer breeds combine the best characteristics of both foundation breeds to create a strong, healthy animal who makes a wonderful pet.
When crossbreeding, breeders are not looking to create a new breed. Instead, they work to take advantage of hybrid vigor. The only problem with this is that there is not a lot of consistency in the offspring of such crosses. Some puppies will tend towards one breed, while others will tend towards the other. Fortunately, certain characteristics shine through, making these designer dogs highly desirable pets.
The following designer dog breeds are some of the designer breeds of yorkie you might find.
Yorkshire Terrier x Chihuahua
Chorkie, Yorkie-Chi, Chia-Yorkie, Yorkiehuahua, Yorkiewawa
Chorkies are tiny, yet highly intelligent designer breed of dogs. They are quite trainable, and enjoy doing tricks. Unfortunately, their small size makes them rather fragile, so it is important to be careful around larger dogs and rambunctious kids. While Chorkies are very active, they can get the exercise they need indoors. This makes them nice dogs for apartment living. The only drawback of this is that they tend to bark, which can annoy the neighbors.
Yorkshire Terrier x Maltese
Morkie, Malkie, Yorktese
This fuzzy and loving Yorkie cross is particularly interesting due to the possibility that Yorkies are related to Maltese. With very similar body types and coats, it is suggested that Yorkies in fact have Maltese as ancestors. This designer breed of yorkie is soft and fluffy, with a coat that benefits from clipping. They are active and friendly, making lovely indoor dogs. They also shed very little, making them nice possibilities for those with allergies.
Yorkshire Terrier x Pomeranian
Yoranian, Yorky Pom
Like the Yorkshire Terrier, Yoranians need daily grooming to keep their coats in prime condition. They are not highly active dogs, and are excellent lap warmers. They can get most of the exercise they need playing with toys around your home. Sometimes stubborn, the yoranian designer breed of yorkie can be a bit tough to train, and need consistency to do well. While some Yoranians are barkers, many are not, making them nice apartment pets.
Yorkshire Terrier x Shih Tzu
Shorkie
Active and spunky, Shorkies are fun dogs to have around. They are very friendly, and will happily make friends with people and animals of all sorts. With a heavy coat that can be difficult to maintain, most owners prefer to keep their Shorkie clipped in a “puppy cut”. While energetic, Shorkies are generally laid back in nature, and enjoy cuddling. With a slightly more solid build, they are nice therapy dogs and companions for disabled children.
Yorkshire Terrier x Poodle (toy or tea cup)
Yorkie Poo
One advantage of poodle crosses is that they shed very little, and often do not irritate those with dog allergies. Yorkie Poos are a great way to have a hypoallergenic dog with the Yorkie character traits. They are very friendly, and enjoy snuggling up after a romp through the room. Poodles are rated as one of the most intelligent breeds of dogs, and Yorkie Poos inherit this intelligence.
Yorkshire Terrier x Bichon Frise
Yo-Chon, Yorkie Chon
Another very fuzzy Yorkie cross, Yo-Chons benefit from regular trips to the groomer for trimming. Fortunately, they do not shed very much, making them nice haypoallergenic pets. They are playful and active, yet enjoy cuddle time. While they can be stubborn to train, food is the key to their hearts. Yo-Chons are smart enough to figure anything out with the promise of a small tidbit in return.

All of the above dogs make great pets. There are many advantages to cross breeding, depending on what dogs you breed- perhaps increased intelligence or health, even more calm or friendly temperament. The problem with cross breeding is that with a litter of these pups you will get many variety of looks- in each litter. Cross breeds have a variety of different markings- agian, in each litter. No two puppies in a cross breed litter will look the same. If you cross breed and expect a certain look one must ask themselves, can I accept something different than my expectations? Can I find a home for many cross breeds? When breeding full bred puppies you will have more certainty in the outcome of each puppy.
