Yorkshire Terrier Stud

Posted on 11 March 2009 by Francis - Kennel Owner

In looking for a Yorkshire Terrier Stud, we should refer to the breed standard as sanctioned in kennel clubs like the AKC. A long-haired toy terrier should have a blue and tan coat. High quality, texture and quantity of coat are important. The hair should be glossy, fine and silky. A moderately straight and long coat is primary, wavy hair isn’t quite to standard. Hairs are sometimes trimmed to give ease of movement and a better appearance. Hair on muzzle is very long. Hair should be trimmed short on tips of ears and may be trimmed on feet to give them a neat appearance.

The body is neat, compact and proportioned weighing no more than seven pounds. It should manifest pride and a confident manner, carrying vigor and self importance.

A Yorkshire Terrier Stud should have a small head and rather flat on top, the skull not being too prominent or round. The muzzle should not be not too long and the mouth without over or under bite. The nose black, eyes are medium in size and not too prominent; dark colored and sparkling with a sharp, intelligent expression. It should have dark eye rims and relatively small V-shaped ears carried erect and set not too far apart. Ear colors are deep rich tan that should not extend down on back of neck.

The Forelegs are straight, elbows neither in nor out and the hind legs also straight when viewed from behind. Toenails should be black mounted on round feet. Declaws are optionally removed. Tails are docked to a medium length and carried slightly higher than the back level. Chest and legs are a bright, rich tan that does not extend above the elbow on the forelegs.

The ideal color on the body is blue that extends over from back of neck to root of tail. Tail hair is a darker blue, especially at end of tail. The head fall is a rich golden tan, which goes deeper color at sides of head, the ears and on the muzzle.

A Yorkshire Terrier stud should ideally be nice to the Yorkie bitch so no nipping happens during mating. Ideally, it should be filled with energy and perseverance to mate. A good attitude and amount of energy on the Yorkshire terrier stud will be a good asset that can be inherited by the puppies.
